Hoyo Dark Sumatra is an old brand from General Cigar that was part of the Hoyo de Monterrey line. Through the years it has faded into memory, but General Cigar has decided to breathe some new life into the brand with a novel idea.
The new Hoyo La Amistad Dark Sumatra will utilize the same tobaccos and the same blend as the old Hoyo Dark Sumatra, but like the other La Amistad lines, it will now be manufactured by A.J. Fernandez in his Nicaraguan factory.
Although the blend is the same that has been used continuously since the brand launched decades ago, the result is different due to the unique fermentation, aging and cigar-making techniques employed by A.J.
Loaded with flavor, the cigar utilizes tobaccos from five different countries. It starts with an Ecuadorian Sumatra Oscuro wrapper surrounding Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The filler blend is comprised of Nicaraguan, Honduran and Dominican Ligero tobaccos. The result is a perfect balance between strength, body and smoothness. The finish is rich, aromatic and creamy with a hint of cedar.
Whether or not you ever smoked the old Hoyo Dark Sumatra, the new Hoyo La Amistad Dark Sumatra is worth giving a try. You won’t be disappointed.
